Perfect autumn weather

I need some warmth! So I painted this wonderful walk in the hills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. I rarely get up there at this time of year, usually staying close to home in the autumn. The low angle of the sun, and the brilliant yellows and oranges of a perfect year’s worth of rain and sunshine are something to be treasured.

The warmth of the colors bring the viewer’s eye into the painting, where the relative coolness of the track provides a counterpoint to the symphony of color, light and late season warmth of the over-arching birch trees. The height of the trees serves to emphasize the true smallness of humanity while at the same time providing a protective canopy to the man walking with his dog on a late autumn afternoon.
